High School Roundup: Huntington Beach boys’ soccer delivers offensive outburst in opener

Carson Dykes had a hat-trick, as the Huntington Beach High School boys’ soccer team kicked off its season with a 7-0 win over Los Amigos on Monday at home.

Nico Ruiz had two goals, and Reid Fisher and Kalani Delarole each had one goal. Daniel Kotkosky made two saves for the shutout.

Huntington Beach (1-0) will play host to Orange (0-2-2) on Wednesday at 5 p.m., while Los Amigos will return to action with a home game against Pacifica next Tuesday.

Marina 2, Long Beach Millikan 2: Joseph Ingrao and Ted Frousiakis scored goals for the Vikings, who played to a draw in their season opener at home on Monday.

Marina will take on Ocean View (0-2) in a nonleague match on the road on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.

Godinez 4, Costa Mesa 0: Daniel Martinez scored twice for the host Grizzlies in Monday’s nonleague game.

Costa Mesa is now 0-2 this season.

Kennedy 2, Estancia 1: Ramiro Coyotzi scored a goal for the host Eagles in their season opener on Monday.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Laguna Beach 63, Costa Mesa 22: Kate Cheng had 22 points, 15 rebounds and three blocked shots, as the Breakers blew out the Mustangs on Monday in a nonleague game on the road.

Sophie Marriner added 19 points, 16 rebounds and five steals for the Breakers, and Sabrina Yang provided two points, six assists and four steals.

Kenna Rudolph scored eight points, and Elaina Seybold also had seven points for Laguna Beach (3-1), which has won three games in a row.

Newport Harbor 62, Pacifica 14: Chase Dionio scored a game-high 33 points to lead the visiting Sailors on Monday in the Mariner Mayhem Tournament.

Cydney Jover had 13 points, four assists and four steals for Newport Harbor (5-2). Kate Bland added eight points and six rebounds, and Emma Fults contributed four points, nine rebounds and three blocks. Aissa Grum also had two points, four steals and three assists.

Long Beach Wilson 52, Marina 33: The Vikings dropped their opening game of the Mariner Mayhem Tournament on Monday.

Marina fell to 2-3 overall.
