The Corona del Mar High girls’ soccer team used two second-half goals to rally for a 2-1 nonleague win over host Costa Mesa on Wednesday.

CdM’s Jane Paulsen scored on an assist from Erin Jones to tie the score. Kayla Spreen then scored the go-ahead goal for the Sea Kings, assisted by Isabella Thomas.

Paulsen had a busy day as earlier Wednesday, she competed in the CIF Southern Section Individuals girls’ tennis tournament. Paulsen and partner Cate Montgomery made the round of 16.

Goalkeeper Sydney Walls made five saves for CdM (1-0), which hosts Santa Maria St. Joseph on Friday at 4:30 p.m.

Itzel Ramirez scored a first-half penalty goal for Costa Mesa (1-2), which hosts San Diego Hoover on Friday at 6:30 p.m.

BOYS’ SOCCER

Huntington Beach 8, Orange 1: The Oilers moved to 2-0 on the season with a second lopsided win at home.

Huntington Beach has outscored the opposition 15-1 over its first two games.

Downey 2, Edison 1: Grayson Marquez scored on a penalty kick for the Chargers in their season opener at home on Wednesday.

JSerra 2, Fountain Valley 1: Ethan Larsson scored for the host Barons in their season opener on Wednesday.

Garden Grove 3, Costa Mesa 1: The Mustangs fell to 0-3 on the season with Wednesday’s nonleague defeat on the road.

Nathan Rocha scored the goal for Costa Mesa.

Savanna 3, Estancia 1: Kevin Flores scored a goal for the host Eagles (0-2) on Wednesday in nonleague play.

BOYS’ BASKETBALL

Corona del Mar 65, Santa Fe 43: Sanjay Tewari scored 19 points, including five first-quarter three-pointers, for the Sea Kings in Wednesday’s Artesia Tournament game.

Dylan Rogers added 15 points for CdM (3-0).

Estancia 50, Norwalk Glenn 29: The Eagles improved to 3-3 after winning Wednesday’s Los Amigos Tournament game.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Fountain Valley 47, Whittier Christian 24: Audrey Tengan paced the Barons with 14 points in Wednesday’s win in the John Glenn Tournament.

Margaret Tengan added 12 points, and Eileen Kim provided seven points for Fountain Valley (4-2), which has won three in a row.

Huntington Beach 45, Norwalk Glenn 1: Kloey Silvia paced the Oilers with eight points on Wednesday in the John Glenn Tournament.

Akemi Tanga and Makenna Tayenaka each had seven points for Huntington Beach (1-4).

Pacifica Christian Orange County 67, Crean Lutheran 56: Addison Deal scored a game-high 27 points to lead the visiting Tritons on Wednesday in a nonleague game.

Annika Jiwani contributed 17 points, and Jamie MacKay also had 14 points for Pacifica Christian (3-0).

Laguna Beach 53, Bolsa Grande 9: Sophie Marriner had 16 points, 10 rebounds, six steals and three assists to lead the Breakers in a nonleague game at home.

Kenna Rudolph added 12 points and three assists for Laguna Beach (5-1), which has won five in a row. Kate Cheng had eight points, eight rebounds and two blocked shots, and Sabrina Yang and Brisa Campos each provided three blocks.
