High School Roundup: Pacifica Christian Orange County boys’ basketball wins CdM Beach Bash opener

Senior guard Riyaan Jiwani had 17 points as the Pacifica Christian Orange County High School boys’ basketball team earned a 57-42 win over Moreno Valley Valley View in its CdM Beach Bash tournament opener Monday at Corona del Mar High.

Dylan Godfrey had 14 points and 12 rebounds for the Tritons (3-1), ranked No. 9 in CIF Southern Section Division 2AA, and EJ Spillman scored 10 points.

Pacifica Christian plays Etiwanda in a tournament quarterfinal Wednesday at 6 p.m.

Etiwanda 69, Newport Harbor 44: Jake Read scored 15 points for the Sailors in their CdM Beach Bash opener Monday night.

Adam Gaa added 11 points for Newport Harbor (5-4).

Crean Lutheran 69, Laguna Beach 33: The Breakers dropped their CdM Beach Bash tournament opener Monday.

Aidan Del Col had a team-high 13 points for Laguna Beach (4-3). Jackson Sirianni and Max Burchi each scored eight points.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Laguna Beach 51, Magnolia 30: Sophie Marriner had 23 points, 22 rebounds, four blocked shots and three steals to lead the visiting Breakers on Monday in a nonleague game.

Kate Cheng scored 15 points to go with 15 rebounds, and Kenna Rudolph and Elaina Seybold each had three blocks for Laguna Beach (6-2).

BOYS’ SOCCER

Fountain Valley 1, Beckman 0: Devin La Clair scored the goal for the host Barons on Monday in nonleague play.

Goalkeepers Austin Quach and Adam Guillen combined on the shutout for Fountain Valley (1-1).

Huntington Beach 1, San Clemente 1: Theodore Melitas scored a goal on a penalty kick for the Oilers on Monday in a nonleague game on the road.

Huntington Beach remains unbeaten on the season at 2-0-1 overall.

Laguna Beach 2, St. Margaret’s 1: The Breakers earned their third consecutive win in Monday’s nonleague game at home.

Chase Cuevas and Gianluca Megerdichian scored for Laguna Beach (3-2), which plays host to Tesoro on Wednesday.

Aliso Niguel 2, Newport Harbor 0: The visiting Sailors took their first loss of the season on Monday in a nonleague match.

Newport Harbor (2-1-1) takes on Laguna Hills at home on Wednesday.

Orange 2, Ocean View 1: Gabriel Castellanos scored a goal for the Seahawks on Monday in a nonleague match on the road.

Ocean View (0-5) remains in search of its first win. The Seahawks travel to take on Laguna Beach on Friday.

WRESTLING

Fountain Valley finished third overall in the Cossarek Classic on Saturday at Westminster High School.

Bellflower St. John Bosco won the team title with 236 points, followed by Servite with 222.5 points. Fountain Valley finished with 202.5 points, and Marina placed 10th with 99 points.

Zach Parker (145 pounds) and Hercules Windrath (152) earned titles in their weight classes to lead the Barons. Sean Solis (138) and Ryland Whitworth (195) were also finalists for Fountain Valley, while Khale McDonnell turned in a third-place performance.

Marina’s Haden Hernandez, a transfer from Huntington Beach, keyed the Vikings’ top 10 showing with a run to the 126-pound final, before losing by decision to St. John Bosco’s Grigor Cholakyan 8-3.

Costa Mesa’s Cameron Glabb (145) and Laguna Beach’s Jeremy Kanter (182) also finished as the runner-up in their respective divisions among locals.

Edison had two placers in Bach Le (120, seventh) and Luke LaLade (126, eighth), while Estancia’s Trevor Wagstaff was seventh at 138 pounds.
