Taylor Smith, Alex Love and Avery Montiel each scored three goals as the Newport Harbor High girls’ water polo team beat San Clemente 19-8 in a nonleague season opener Tuesday at Newport Harbor High.

Morgan Netherton, Paige Neagle and Ryan Chalupnik each scored twice for the Sailors. Goalkeeper Madi Swart made three saves, and Anna Reed made one save.

The Sailors play at Studio City Harvard-Westlake on Saturday.

BOYS’ BASKETBALL

Edison 68, Whitney 14: Dylan Hugues scored 14 points for the Chargers in their CdM Beach Bash tournament opener Tuesday night.

Trey Wilborn had 11 points for Edison, and Emerson Evans scored 10.

The Chargers (5-2) continued tournament play Wednesday against Mater Dei.

GIRLS’ SOCCER

Pacifica Christian Orange County 1, Estancia 0: Sophomore Talia Proctor scored her sixth goal of the season, lifting the Tritons in Tuesday’s nonleague match at Estancia High.

Senior Leila Bahnsen had the assist, her fourth of the year, for Pacifica Christian (4-1).

Estancia fell to 1-3.

Marina 5, Ocean View 3: The Vikings improved to 2-1 after Tuesday’s nonleague win at Marina High.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Sage Hill 69, Brea Olinda 54: Emily Eadie had 18 points, 16 rebounds, four assists, three steals and two blocked shots, as the Lightning earned a nonleague win on the road.

Zoie Lamkin scored 17 points for Sage Hill (9-1). Isabel Gomez added 14 points, six rebounds, four assists and three steals, and Kat Righeimer chipped in with 14 points and eight rebounds.

Laguna Beach 52, Santa Ana 32: Sophie Marriner had a team-high 14 points to go with 10 rebounds and four blocks for the visiting Breakers on Tuesday in a nonleague game.

Kate Cheng added 10 points, eight rebounds and three assists for Laguna Beach (7-2). Alexandra Grombchevsky had 12 points, three assists and three steals, and Kenna Rudolph scored nine points on a trio of three-pointers.

Estancia 40, Bolsa Grande 21: Carolina Meza had 10 points, eight steals and three rebounds to lead the host Eagles to a nonleague victory on Tuesday.

Mackenzie Sanchez scored nine points to go with seven rebounds, four steals and three assists for Estancia (2-3). Lizbeth Sanchez paced the Eagles with 12 points, and Morgan Bargas contributed seven rebounds.

Newport Harbor 68, Mission Viejo 30: Chase Dionio had 24 points, five rebounds and four steals for the Sailors on Tuesday in a nonleague game at home.

Cydney Jover added 10 points, seven assists, four rebounds and three steals for Newport Harbor (9-2), which has won five in a row. Emma Fults also had 10 points, six rebounds and three assists, and Aissa Grum chipped in with six points and 11 rebounds.

Huntington Beach 54, Tustin 41: The host Oilers posted a season-high point total in Tuesday’s nonleague win over the Tillers.

Makenna Tayenaka had 12 points and three steals for Huntington Beach, which improved to 3-6 overall. Lily Alonso also had 10 points and six steals on her birthday.

El Modena 50, Los Amigos 25: The visiting Lobos fell to 0-7 overall following Tuesday’s nonleague game.

BOYS’ SOCCER

Pacifica 4, Los Amigos 2: Izaiah Franco and Oracio Teriquez each scored a goal for the host Lobos in Tuesday’s nonleague match.

Los Amigos dropped to 2-2 overall.

Mater Dei 7, Marina 0: The Vikings took their first loss of the season on Tuesday in a nonleague match on the road.

Marina (1-1-1) plays at Los Amigos on Thursday.

Downey Calvary Chapel 5, Pacifica Christian Orange County 3: The Tritons lost their Academy League opener on Tuesday at home.

Pacifica Christian is now 0-3 overall and 0-1 in league.
