High School Roundup: Tengan twins lead Fountain Valley girls’ basketball past El Toro

Margaret Tengan had a team-high 18 points for the Fountain Valley High School girls’ basketball team in its 62-50 win over El Toro on Tuesday in a nonleague road triumph.

Audrey Tengan scored 14 points, Hannah Walsh had 10 points, Audrey Chow added eight points and Sarah Henry chipped in with six points for the Barons.

Fountain Valley (7-3) has won six of its last seven games.

El Toro (8-4) is tied with Riverside Hillcrest for fourth in the CIF Southern Section Division 3A rankings this week.

Newport Harbor 55, Foothill 42: Chase Dionio had 20 points, five assists and five steals, as the Sailors earned a nonleague victory on the road on Tuesday.

Cydney Jover scored 13 points for Newport Harbor (11-2). Emma Fults added seven points, 14 rebounds and three steals. Kate Bland also contributed four points, four rebounds and three assists.

Laguna Beach 47, El Modena 34: Sophie Marriner led the visiting Breakers with 18 points and 15 rebounds on Tuesday night in a nonleague game.

Kate Cheng added 13 points and 10 rebounds to help Laguna Beach (11-2) defeat El Modena (8-3), which is ranked No. 8 in the CIF Southern Section Division 4A poll.

Kenna Rudolph and Alexandra Grombchevsky each handed out four assists for the Breakers, who have won a season-high six games in a row.

Northwood 48, Edison 45: Mia Cassell paced the host Chargers with 15 points and 10 rebounds in a nonleague contest Tuesday evening.

Bailey Chang scored 12 points, and Kat Rumsey added 10 points for Edison (4-9).

Estancia 50, Century 42: Mackenzie Sanchez had a near triple-double performance with nine points, nine rebounds and eight assists to lead the visiting Eagles on Tuesday in a nonleague game.

Carolina Meza had a team-high 14 points and four steals for Estancia (3-3), and Sophia Sihabouj scored 13 points to go with eight rebounds and three assists.

BOYS’ SOCCER

Cypress 2, Marina 0: The host Vikings were shut out for the third consecutive outing on Tuesday in a nonleague match.

Marina (1-3-1) faces another Empire League opponent in Kennedy at home on Friday.

GIRLS’ SOCCER

Fountain Valley 6, Godinez 0: The Barons more than doubled their season-long output in goal scoring in Tuesday’s nonleague match on the road.

Taylor Heit recorded a hat-trick for Fountain Valley (2-2-1). Katrina Vidal, Veronica Campbell and Kayla Knoob each scored one goal, and Nylah Mirashafei made two saves to earn the clean sheet.

Ocean View 3, Costa Mesa 2: The visiting Seahawks earned back-to-back wins for the first time this season to even their record to 3-3.

Kyra Kirsch and Brianna Calderon scored the goals for Costa Mesa (2-6-1), which has dropped its last four games.

WRESTLING

Huntington Beach 42, Laguna Beach 36: The Oilers earned a narrow victory on the road to take their Wave League opener on Tuesday.

Parker Brown (106 pounds), Barron Zepeda (113), James Kramer (145), Micah Chavez (152), Zade Harrison (160) and Jeremy Kanter (182) all won their matches by pin for Laguna Beach.

Laguna Beach won six of the nine matches wrestled on the mat, but the Breakers were unable to provide a wrestler to compete in five of the 14 weight classes, with the resulting forfeits culminating in their downfall.
