Senior Sydney Hoggard scored five goals as the Edison High girls’ lacrosse team fell at top-seeded Foothill, 16-10, in the first round of the CIF Southern Section Division 1 playoffs on Tuesday.

Melissa Strope and Gwen Ontiveros added two goals each for Edison (13-6), the Sunset League champion. Sofia Chock scored one goal and goalkeeper Cailien Gorsuch made seven saves.

Foothill improved to 19-1 this season.

BOYS’ LACROSSE

Santa Margarita 13, Newport Harbor 7: The Sailors’ season ended in the wild-card round of the CIF Southern Section Division 1 playoffs Monday on the road.

CIF Southern Section swimming preliminaries

Division 2

Sage Hill School junior Ryan Chang qualified fourth in the boys’ 100-yard butterfly and fifth in the backstroke on Tuesday at Marguerite Aquatics Center in Mission Viejo.

Chang touched in 50.89 seconds in the butterfly, and 52.17 in the backstroke. Sage Hill’s 200 freestyle relay team of Chang, Kyle Wong, Noah Joshi and Adam Yang also qualified seventh in 1:27.64.

Huntington Beach’s Grace Brehm also made a championship final in the girls’ 100 breaststroke, qualifying eighth in 1:06.45.

The Division 2 finals are Friday.

Division 4

Ocean View High freshman Morgan Carles qualified top three for finals in both of her events Monday at Marguerite Aquatics Center in Mission Viejo.

Carles qualified third in the 200 individual medley in 2:17.64, and third in the 100 freestyle in 54.83. The Seahawks’ 400 freestyle relay team of Gabrielle Singer, Danielle Singer, Leighanna Frahm and Carles also qualified second in 3:59.37.

The Division 4 finals are Saturday.
