Breakers honored at girls’ soccer banquet

Members of the 2011-12 Laguna Beach girls’ soccer team were honored at the team’s banquet March 7. Marina Paul was named team’s Most Valuable Player. The senior also has been named MVP of the Orange Coast League. Other honors for the Breakers included: Offensive MVP: April Carlson, forward, Sr.; Defensive MVP: Sarah Hewlett, defender, Jr.; Most Improved: Marcella Bechtel, defender, Sr.; Most Inspirational: Caroline Cannan, midfielder, Sr., and Johana Abarca, forward, Soph.; Coaches Award: Melissa Chapman, forward, Jr., and Torrie Ornelas, defender, Sr. Captains: Marina Paul, April Carlson, Caroline Cannan, Torrie Ornelas.

Laguna aquatics programs holding fundraiser

The Laguna Beach High swim and boys’ water polo programs are holding a fundraiser in conjunction with YogaWorks yoga studios. Team members are selling $25 gift certificates good for 25 days of unlimited classes through the end of the month.

Certificates, which must be redeemed at the Laguna Beach studio (30818 Pacific Coast Hwy.) but can be used at any of the five YogaWorks studio locations in Orange County, are valid through the end of April. New students, or those who have not used a YogaWorks studio in the past year or longer, are eligible to purchase a certificate. All proceeds benefit the Laguna Beach swim and boys’ water polo programs.

Youth flag football league registration open

True Youth Flag Football, in association with NFL Flag and Play 60, is being offered for local boys and girls at a new location in Dana Hills. The league is open to youth ages 5 to 14 and is based on the principles of learning the game of football and developing leadership skills. League play will be held each Saturday beginning April 14. Games will be played at Richard Henry Dana Elementary School (24242 La Cresta Dr., Dana Point).
