Marina’s Nathan O’Rourke makes All-Big 4 League first team in football

Junior linebacker Nathan O’Rourke highlights one of four Marina High football players on the All-Big 4 League first team.

The other three Vikings were senior lineman Daniel Escamilla, senior wide receiver Nathan Pendleton and John Robinson, a senior linebacker and receiver. Marina (3-7, 1-2 in league) placed third in the inaugural league and failed to qualify for the CIF Southern Section Division 9 playoffs.

O’Rourke totaled 135 tackles and recovered one fumble.

Pendleton finished with 48 catches for 693 yards and seven touchdowns.

Robinson had 69 tackles, 14 tackles for loss and two sacks. As a receiver, he caught 26 passes for 242 yards and two touchdowns.

The second-team picks from Marina were junior defensive lineman Isaia Regan, junior running back Pharoah Rush, sophomore quarterback Jack Miller and sophomore running back Brantt Riederich.

Garden Grove’s Mike Carrillo, a running back and linebacker, earned the Big 4 League MVP award.

Two quarterbacks — Segerstrom’s Angel Vega and Garden Grove’s Jacob Zazueta — shared the Offensive Player of the Year honor.

The Defensive Player of the Year award went to Segerstrom linebacker Reymundo Garcia and Garden Grove tackle Kevin Feliuai.

Garden Grove’s Tafisi Gauta was the Lineman of the Year.
