High School Roundup: CdM boys’ basketball extends winning streak to eight with win over Marina

Jack Stone scored 18 points as the Corona del Mar High boys’ basketball team earned a 63-36 win over visiting Marina on Wednesday night in a Sunset Conference crossover game.

John Humphreys added 15 points for the Sea Kings (15-5), and Jake Hamilton scored nine.

CdM hosts Edison in a Surf League opener Friday at 7 p.m.

Jakob Alamudin scored 13 points and Dean Keeler added 11 points for Marina (11-10), which begins Wave League play with a home game Friday against Huntington Beach at 7 p.m.

Newport Harbor 62, Laguna Beach 42: Sam Barela had 15 points and nine assists, helping the Sailors improve to 20-1 after Wednesday’s Sunset Conference crossover game on the road.

Dayne Chalmers scored 14 points and Robbie Spooner 13 for Newport Harbor, ranked No. 9 in the CIF Southern Section Division 2AA poll. The Sailors play at Los Alamitos on Friday at 7 p.m. to begin Surf League play.

Laguna Beach (7-13) hosts Fountain Valley on Friday at 7 p.m. in its Wave League opener.

Edison 58, Fountain Valley 50: Kaden Headington led the visiting Chargers (15-7) with 26 points in Wednesday’s Sunset Conference crossover game.

The Barons fell to 7-15 overall.

Sage Hill 77, Calvary Chapel Downey 29: The Lightning improved to 2-0 in the Academy League after Wednesday’s home win.

Sage Hill is 12-8 overall and ranked No. 3 in CIF Southern Section Division 5AA.

GIRLS’ SOCCER

Pacifica Christian Orange County 2, Sage Hill 1: Freshmen Cassandra Cross and Leila Bahnsen each scored for the Tritons in Wednesday’s San Joaquin League match at Vanguard University.

Brooklyn Motske had both assists for Pacifica Christian (10-1, 2-1 in league), ranked No. 5 in CIF Southern Section Division 6.

Lexi Van Den Bosch scored for Sage Hill (3-2-1, 1-1).

BOYS’ SOCCER

Estancia 2, Costa Mesa 1: Miguel Pena scored twice for the host Eagles in Wednesday’s Orange Coast League game.

Andres Milan drew the assist on both goals for the Eagles (9-5-2, 1-1-1 in league).

Costa Mesa fell to 4-7-2 overall and 1-2 in the league.

Corona del Mar 2, Marina 0: Niko Urban had two goals in the host Sea Kings’ Sunset Conference crossover game on Wednesday.

Goalkeepers Nik Darrough and Wally Korbler combined on the shutout for the Sea Kings (10-2).

Edison 2, Fountain Valley 1: Bryan Corona and Armand Pigeon scored goals for the visiting Chargers in Wednesday’s Sunset Conference crossover game.

Edison has won three in a row, improving its record to 9-4-4

Fountain Valley (10-4) has lost three straight games.

Newport Harbor 2, Laguna Beach 1: Jet Rocha scored a goal for the host Breakers in Wednesday’s Sunset Conference crossover game.

Laguna Beach dropped to 3-4-3 on the season.
