High School Roundup: Marina girls’ basketball clinches share of Wave League title

Senior guard Katie Nguyen had 17 points, 12 rebounds, eight assists and three steals, and the Marina High girls’ basketball team clinched at least a share of the Wave League title with a 52-39 win at Fountain Valley on Tuesday night.

Emily Sakamoto contributed 14 points and 14 rebounds for Marina (17-9, 4-0 in league), which made 10 three-pointers.

The Vikings, ranked No. 15 in the CIF Southern Section Division 3A poll, host Laguna Beach on Thursday at 6 p.m.

The Barons (12-13, 2-2 in league) play at Newport Harbor on Thursday at 7 p.m.

Huntington Beach 39, Los Alamitos 34: Meghan McIntyre had 10 points, and the host Oilers stayed atop the Surf League on Tuesday.

Andie Payne added eight points and 11 rebounds for Huntington Beach (19-6, 3-1 in league), which is tied for first place with Corona del Mar.

The Oilers, ranked No. 5 in CIF Southern Section Division 2AA, travel to play Edison on Thursday at 7 p.m.

Newport Harbor 49, Laguna Beach 25: Willa Rath finished with 19 points, 20 rebounds, four assists, two blocked shots and one steal in the Sailors’ Wave League game Tuesday.

Genevieve Perry added 10 points, eight rebounds, three blocks and three steals for Newport Harbor (12-14, 2-2 in league). Emma Fults had eight points, 18 rebounds, two assists, two blocks and two steals.

The Breakers dropped to 16-9 overall and 0-4 in the league.

Corona del Mar 40, Edison 39: The host Sea Kings improved to 3-1 in the Surf League on Tuesday and remained in a first-place tie.

CdM, ranked No. 13 in CIF Southern Section Division 3A, plays at Los Alamitos on Thursday at 7 p.m.

The Chargers are 0-4 in league action.

Costa Mesa 51, Orange 26: The Mustangs are 7-0 in the Orange Coast League after Tuesday’s road game.

GIRLS’ SOCCER

Corona del Mar 3, Edison 2: Natalie Hueston scored two goals and assisted on another in the Sea Kings’ Surf League match at home Tuesday.

Megan Chelf had a goal and an assist for the Sea Kings (12-2-4, 2-1-1 in league), who play at first-place Los Alamitos (19-0-5, 2-0-2) on Thursday at 6 p.m.

Goalkeeper Giovanna Broderick made five saves for CdM, and coach Bryan Middleton said Mia Fiorentino played well defensively.

Chloe Helenihi and Nicole Field scored for the Chargers (11-6-3, 0-2-2), who host Huntington Beach (11-6-7, 0-1-3) on Thursday at 5 p.m.

Newport Harbor 1, Laguna Beach 1: Sofia Velazquez scored for the visiting Sailors in Tuesday’s Wave League match.

Newport Harbor, ranked No. 7 in CIF Southern Section Division 1, is 14-2-6 overall and 3-0-1 in the league. The Sailors are at home against Fountain Valley on Thursday at 5 p.m.

The Breakers (4-9-4, 2-1-1 in league) play at Marina on Thursday at 3 p.m.
