High School Roundup: Newport Harbor baseball improves to 3-0

Senior Cameron Mahaffy went four for four with two doubles and three runs scored in the Newport Harbor High baseball team’s 9-2 victory at Montebello Schurr in a Newport Elks Tournament Foothill Division game on Tuesday.

The Sailors (3-0) will host Capistrano Valley Christian in the semifinals on Wednesday at 3 p.m.

Newport Harbor scored seven runs in the top of the seventh inning against Schurr. James Ferrell earn the win in relief.

Will O’Neil was two for two with three runs batted in and a triple, and Braham Duncan was two for two with three RBIs.

Marina 8, Villa Park 4: Austin Hallman hit a three-run home run in the first inning and finished two for four with four RBIs and a double for the host Vikings in Tuesday’s Loara Tournament consolation game.

Rocco Peppi had three hits and Andrew Sojka had two RBIs.

Alex Bernal, Michael Turner and Cory Lewis pitched well for Marina (2-1).

Estancia 5, Whittier Pioneer 3: Justin Wood improved to 2-0 after the Eagles’ Newport Elks Tournament Orange County Division game on the road Tuesday.

Long Beach Wilson 4, Edison 2: The Chargers fell to 2-3 after Tuesday’s Loara Tournament game at Glover Stadium in Anaheim.
