Marina’s Luth to enter CIF Southern Section Hall of Fame

Longtime Marina High softball coach Shelly Luth has been selected as part of the 33rd induction class to the CIF Southern Section Hall of Fame.

Luth will be among nine educators honored at a luncheon at The Grand Conference Center in Long Beach on Wednesday , starting at 11:30 a.m.

Luth coached softball at Marina for 30 years before retiring in 2014, including 23 years as the head coach. Her teams won three CIF championships, 11 league championships and qualified for the postseason 22 times in her 23-year tenure.

Luth, also a former athletic director at Marina, had a career record of 476-250-3. In 2013, she was elected to the Orange County Softball Hall of Fame.

“My philosophy is to teach kids to compete at the highest level with intensity, integrity and character,” Luth said in a release. “We try to teach sportsmanship, good attitude and personal responsibility, which are all important life skills.”
