Ford to play for Aggies

Brian Ford, a standout soccer player who will be a senior at Corona del Mar High in the fall, has verbally committed to UC Davis, his father, Dan, said Wednesday.

Ford has confirmed to accept a scholarship to play soccer for the Aggies. The university’s academics, the team’s caliber of play and the opportunity to play right away were key factors in his decision, as over 50 schools contacted the versatile speedy midfielder.

UC Irvine and St. Mary’s were offering a scholarship, Dan Ford said.

Brian Ford loved UCI and came away impressed with the coaches and program, but he had a strong desire to move away from home for college.

Brian Ford was named an ESPN RISE Winter Second-Team All-American. He also earned ESPN RISE All-State honors.

He recorded 11 goals and four assists, as he helped lead the Sea Kings to their first CIF Southern Section Division IV and CIF Southern California Regional Division II titles.

CdM finished 27-1-1 and ranked No. 2 in the country by ESPN RISE.

Ford, a member of the Newport Beach-based Slammers Futbol Club for eight years, was also named the All-CIF Southern Section Division IV Defensive Player of the Year.

He also helped CdM to a share of the Pacific Coast League title.

In the spring, he was named to the Daily Pilot Dream Team for baseball as an outfielder.
