Locals capture honors

UC Irvine senior Corey Attaway and junior Miguel Ibarra were named Big West Players of the Week Monday.

Attaway earned Big West Defensive Player of the Week honors after guiding the UCI defense to a pair of shutouts against Gonzaga and Loyola Chicago. Attaway and the 'Eater defense didn't allow a shot on goal in either of the two matches last week. Attaway also scored the game-winning goal against Loyola Chicago. Monday he was named the UC Irvine College Classic MVP after scoring the game-winner against Wisconsin as well.

Ibarra was named Big West Offensive Player of the Week after his three-assist performance on the opening week. Ibarra's ball placement on his crosses allowed three UCI defenders to score the opening week. He assisted on both game-winners and was also named to the UCI College Classic All-Tournament team Monday.
