NEWPORT BEACH — Katie Bick and Rian Billingsley swept at No. 1 doubles to help the Lightning record its first win over the Griffins Thursday at the Tennis Club Newport Beach.

Liana Korber swept at No. 1 doubles in the nonleague match for the Lightning.

NEWPORT BEACH — Three doubles teams and No. 1 singles player Blake Bakkila all won two sets to pace the host Sailors in the nonleague season opener Thursday.

Bakilla won 6-0, 6-0, while Ricki Archie and Christina Young (6-1, 6-0 at No. 1), Megan Bathen and Mindy Wheeler (6-0, 6-0 at No. 2), as well as Riley Mathias and Alex Aiello (6-2, 6-0 at No. 3) handled their doubles competition.

Newport Harbor, which topped Sunny Hills in a scrimmage Wednesday, visits Northwood today.

MOORPARK — Senior forward Mary Yeager scored both goals and senior goalkeeper Megan Nance made two saves in the nonleague season opener for the Sailors Thursday at Moorpark College.

Senior Beth Barnard had one assist and junior center back Courtney McIntosh was singled out for her strong play as well by first-year coach Amanda Boyer.

The Tars visit Bonita High on Tuesday.

NEWPORT BEACH — Maddy Brown had 13 kills and 13 digs for the Sailors, who lost their season opener Thursday.

The Jackrabbits won, 19-25, 21-25, 25-21, 25-20, 15-10.

Alex Holbrook had 10 kills and Sarah Buckingham added nine kills. Cinnamon Sary had 31 assists, 12 digs, 5 kills and four blocks, while Tatum Norton had nine digs. Hunter Jennings had eight digs and Tabitha Goff had six digs.

SANTA ANA — Morgan Boukather had nine kills for the Sea Kings in their season opener Thursday.

Mater Dei won, 25-19, 25-21, 25-18.

Katelyn Baker had 12 digs, Kelsey Humphreys had 11 assists and Megan Griffin recorded four blocks for CdM.

YORBA LINDA — Charlotte Skjonsby and Tara Hanna each shot seven-over-par 43 to lead the Sailors in the nonleague match Wednesday at Black Gold Golf Course.

Amelia Thomas (52), Alley Danser (56) and Lauren Pfeifer (57) also scored for Newport Harbor (0-2).
