NEWPORT BEACH — Newport Harbor High advanced to today’s quarterfinals after defeating Buena Park, 21-1, and Esperanza, 16-6, in pool play at Newport Harbor.

The third-seeded Sailors will play sixth-seeded Dos Pueblos in a quarterfinal at 5 p.m., also at Newport Harbor.

Farrel South had six goals against the Aztecs for the Sailors (5-0), with Davy Jorth, Dan Stevens and Ryan Fowler each scoring twice. Chris Whitelegge had 14 saves.

Trevor McGhie led all scorers against Buena Park with five goals.

CORONA DEL MAR — Corona del Mar High senior Hayden Leach scored the game-winning goal 19 seconds into sudden-death overtime on Miles Carpenter’s assist, as the Sea Kings outlasted Villa Park, 10-9, Thursday night to advance to today’s quarterfinals.

Leach also scored the game-tying goal with two seconds left in regulation for CdM (2-2). He had three total goals. Evan Ramsey and Emery Molnar each scored twice and Bruce Bearer had eight saves.

The Sea Kings opened the tournament by beating Edison, 15-5, earlier Thursday behind three goals each from Molnar and Chase Watson.

Fifth-seeded CdM plays fourth-seeded Loyola in a quarterfinal today at 5 p.m. at CdM.

Costa Mesa 13,

Magnolia 6

ANAHEIM — James Lewis scored seven goals in the Mustangs’ nonleague match Thursday at Magnolia High.

Jamie Sacco and Kyle Picco each scored twice for Mesa (3-3). Goalie Mitchell Grandia had 12 saves and four assists, sparking the Mesa counterattack.

The Mustangs next play in the Katella-hosted Grafton Weiss Memorial Tournament, beginning at 4 p.m. today with a road match at Cypress.

Brea Olinda 8

COSTA MESA — Senior Charlie Umansky scored eight goals to lead the Eagles’ comeback win Thursday at Estancia.

Senior goalie Conner Graham had 10 saves for the Eagles (4-0), who were down, 6-4, at halftime.

Estancia plays at the Grafton Weiss Memorial Tournament today.

NEWPORT BEACH — Junior Blake Bakkila swept at No. 1 singles, 6-3, 6-2, 6-1, to pace the host Sailors in the nonlegue match Thursday.

Lauren Conway won of her two sets at No. 3 singles, 6-3, 6-2, before being subbed out and the No. 1 doubles tandem of Ricki Archie and Christina Young won 12 of 15 games, before giving way to a sub.

The Tars (5-1), ranked No. 5 in CIF Southern Section Division II, play host to Woodbridge, ranked No. 9 in Division I, on Tuesday.

NEWPORT BEACH — CdM senior Tiffany Su was medalist with a one-over par 36 to lead the Sea Kings to a Pacific Coast League win Thursday at Newport Beach Country Club.

Emily Turner shot 39 for the Sea Kings (5-2, 3-1 in league). Grace Kim (43), Kim Schmied (43) and Caitlin Shinohara (49) also scored.

Coach Mike Starkweather said his team is in second place in league, which Starkweather said is the toughest he’s seen it in his coaching career at CdM. Northwood leads the league.

CYPRESS — Junior Charlotte Skjonsby shot a five-over par 36 to lead the Sailors in the Sunset League match Thursday at Navy Golf Course.

Tara Hanna shot 43 for Newport Harbor (0-7, 0-3 in league). Also scoring were Amelia Thomas (44), Lauren Pfeifer (47) and Kylie Granath (52).

Newport is back in action Tuesday against Edison, at Seacliff Country Club.

NEWPORT COAST — Junior middle blocker Zoe Kreitenberg had six kills and two stuff blocks to pace the host Lightning in the nonleague match Thursday.

Junior Natasha Sakraney had six kills and three blocks and junior setter Alayna Lewis had 14 assists and seven digs for Sage (3-8), which plays host to Ocean View on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
