CORONA DEL MAR — Senior Will Havercroft scored three goals to help lead Corona del Mar High to a 9-7 win over Loyola of Los Angeles in the quarterfinals Friday at CdM.

Evan Ramsey and Hayden Leach scored two goals each to also help the Sea Kings (3-2) upset the defending tournament champion. Chase Watson and Emery Molnar had one goal each.

CdM will face El Toro in a semifinal today at 10:40 a.m. at Newport Harbor.

NEWPORT BEACH — Jason Lynch returned as coach of Newport Harbor High Friday and led the Sailors to a 7-4 win over Dos Pueblos in the quarterfinals at Newport Harbor.

Lynch had been serving a two-week suspension after the fallout from Newport Harbor forfeiting wins and the 2009 Sunset League title for using an academically ineligible player last year. That player is believed to be Jon Walters, who transferred to Mater Dei but is ineligible to play there.

Next up for Newport Harbor? Mater Dei. The Sailors play against the Monarchs in the semifinals today at 11:45 a.m. The winner advances to the final at 4:05 p.m. The games are at Newport Harbor.

Goalie Chris Whitelegge was impressive for Newport Harbor against Dos Pueblos, recording 18 saves and two steals. Dan Stevens scored four goals and Ryan Fowler had two goals for the Sailors (6-0).

CYPRESS — Costa Mesa High went went 1-1 on the first day of pool play Friday at Cypress High.

Wyatt Ferris, Jamie Sacco and Brian Lozana scored three goals each in a 12-7 win over Santa Ana Valley. Quinn Stone scored two goals and Eric Medina added one for the Mustangs (4-4), who opened with a 13-8 loss to Cypress. Ferris had three goals, while James Lewis and Jamie Sacco scored two each for Costa Mesa.

ANAHEIM — Estancia splits its games on the first day of pool play Friday at Magnolia.

Twelve players scored for the Eagles (5-1) in a 18-5 win over Magnolia.

Charlie Umanksy had four goals and Preston Schow two in a 9-7 loss to Valencia.
