Girls’ Tennis Roundup: Sea Kings, Sailors, Sage win

FULLERTON – The Sea Kings swept in doubles to win the CIF Southern Section Division I second-round match Saturday.

CdM’s Kalika Slevcove tore ligaments in her left wrist last Sunday playing tennis, forcing her to only use one hand on her backhand this week, Coach Brian Ricker said. But that hasn’t slowed her down. She is 6-0 on the week.

Against Troy, she teamed with Morgan McVey for two victories and Sami Rekoon for the last.

In singles, Lynda Xepoleas and Lauren Thaxter both won two sets before being subbed out.

CdM will play host to Peninsula Tuesday in the quarterfinals.

The Sea Kings lost to Peninsula, 13-5, Sept. 28 without Thaxter.

Newport Harbor 12, Flintridge Prep 6

LA CAÑADA — The top-seeded Sailors swept in doubles in the second round of the CIF Southern Section Division II playoffs Saturday at Flintridge Prep.

The Tars (19-2) play the winner of Saturday’s second-round match between San Marcos and Valencia of Valencia on Tuesday.

Rickie Archie and Christina Young (No. 1), Megan Bathen and Mindy Wheeler (No. 2) and Alex Aiello and Riley Mathies (No. 3), accounted for nine points with their doubles sweeps.

Sage Hill 12, Malibu 6

MALIBU — The visiting Lightning swept all nine doubles sets to top the Sharks in the second round of the CIF Southern Section Division III playoffs at Pepperdine University on Saturday.

Sage Hill (I3-6) will meet either No. 4-seeded Redlands or San Luis Obispo in Tuesday’s quarterfinals.

Juniors Katie Bick and Rian Billingsley won, 6-0, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 1 doubles.’

Senior Devyn Billingsley and sophomore Lauren Hsu posted 6-1, 6-0, 6-2, wins at No. 2 doubles, while the No. 3 team of Olivia Simon and senior Ava Soleimany breezed to 6-1, 6-3, 6-2 wins.
