Edison's Witherby headed to Oregon State

The Oregon State University gymnastics program received National Letters of Intent from a pair of highly recruited gymnasts Nov. 10, including Cerise Witherby of Huntington Beach. Also in the Beavers' 2011 recruiting class is Chelsea Tang of Eugene, Ore.

Witherby attends Edison High and trains with Wildfire Gymnastics. She finished third in the all-around at the 2010 Junior Olympics National Championships and made the J.O National Team. She also finished third on beam and fourth on vault at the national championship meet.

Oregon State launches its season today with its annual Orange & Black Exhibition.

"We are excited to announce the additions of Chelsea and Cerise to the Oregon State gymnastics program," Chaplin said in a statement. "They are talented gymnasts, excellent students and wonderful young women. They have had tremendous success academically and competing at the Junior Olympic level. We are confident they have the ability and drive to continue the gymnastics team's pursuit of academic and athletic excellence."
