Chelsea Futbol Club wins AYSO regional crown

Chelsea Futbol Club won the AYSO Region 55 boys’ Under-10 boys’ championship Saturday at College View Elementary by defeating the Green Dragons, 5-1, in a rainy final.

Chelsea beat the Strikers earlier in the day, 4-2, to advance to the title game. The Green Dragons defeated the HB Fire Storm, 3-2, to move on to the final.

Chelsea defenders Jason St. Pierre, Zach Lyons, Neaco Logan, brothers Dylan and Brody MacDonald and goalie Anthony Basaldua were dominant in the game and the regular season, where the defense surrendered just six goals. Chelsea was also aided by a strong performance by forward Chris Haase.

Chelsea took an early lead on a goal by Zach Lyons in the second quarter and a goal by Will Macy increased the lead to 2-0. The Green Dragons fought back in the second half with a goal by Cory Nicholson to make cut the Chelsea lead to 2-1.

Chelsea, however, pulled away Macy scored twice more and Sean Muirhead scored on a penalty kick to push the lead to 5-1.

By winning the division title, Chelsea, coached by Cary Macy and assistant coach John Muirhead, advances to the Area K Playoffs that begin Saturday in Long Beach. Chelsea will play three pool play games, the first at 10:30 a.m. and the second at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Stanford Middle School. The third pool play game is at 9 a.m. Dec. 11.

In the U10 boys’ third-place game, the Strikers defeated the Fire Storm, 3-1.

Girls’ Soccer

Nike Power, a U14 team from Fountain Valley, will represent AYSO Region 5 in the Area K playoffs that begin Saturday at Sun View School in Huntington Beach. Nike Power will open the playoffs at 10:30 am against Region 56. The playoffs will continue through Dec. 11.

Team Members include: Claire Pritchard, Sara Kanthong, Alexa Dameron, Imani Mallette, Jovanna Molina, Stephanie Toubbeh, Donna Turrubiate, Elizabeth Sanchez, Mia Sepulveda, Abby Lee, Samantha Stevens, Betty Markarian, Elzy Segura, Aanisah Bholat and Helen Sandoval.
