College Roundup: OCC wins Cuesta tourney

SAN LUIS OBISPO — Sophomore forward Samantha Hansen scored 22 points, including the game-winning basket with 13 seconds left in overtime in the final of the Cuesta Tournament, completed Saturday at Cuesta College.

Hansen, who also made the game-winning basket in the Cuesta Tournament final in 2009, was named MVP of the tournament.

Amanda Deal, who scored 10 points, including two late three-pointers against Citrus, was named all-tournament, as was OCC's Alyssa Hanson. Hanson had 10 points in the final and finished the three-game tournament with 31 points and 22 assists.

OCC defeated Allan Hancock, 85-52, in the semifinals, shooting 57% from three-point range (14 of 25).

Hansen had 24 points and 11 rebounds in the Pirates's tournament-opening 74-54 win over Oxnard.


Point Loma Nazarene 83, Vanguard 70

COSTA MESA — Senior Billy Thompson had 15 points to lead the Lions in the Golden State Athletic Conference home game Tuesday.

Christopher Raybon and Chris Pynch added 13 points apiece for the Lions (1-6, 0-3 in conference).

Point Loma, which shot 53.6% from the field (30 of 56), improved to 5-3, 3-0.
