High School Roundup: Newport wrestlers pound Anaheim


Newport Harbor 59, Anaheim 15

NEWPORT BEACH — The Sailors scored six victories by pin in the nonleague dual match Tuesday.

Freshman Jacob Gualrapp (103-pound division), sophomore David Wadleigh III (119), senior Jeff Bowler (145), junior Ben Nordstrom (152), senior Justin Craft (160), sophomore R.J. Roberts (171) and senior Bradley Beaudette (189) pinned their opponent.

Sophomore Larson Harley (125), senior Jesus Sotelo (130) and junior Alex Maher (135) also scored victories for Newport Harbor (7-2).


Estancia 16, Bolsa Grande 8

COSTA MESA — Sophomore Ilene Umansky recorded six goals in the Eagles' nonleague game on Tuesday.

Kylie Carpenter contributed five goals for Estancia (2-5).


Estancia 2, Irvine 1

IRVINE — Alissa Scheafer scored the game-winning goal with five minutes left in the nonleague match, lifting the Eagles to a 2-0 start to the season.

Ashly Romero had the assist on Scheafer's goal. Goalkeeper Alex Mera made three saves.

Heather Flores also scored for Estancia, which plays Villa Park in the Irvine Tournament on Friday at 3:15 p.m.

Sage Hill 1, Rancho Alamitos 0

GARDEN GROVE — Maddie Culberson converted a penalty kick in the fifth minute for the Lightning in the nonleague game Tuesday.

Goalie Alexi Thomas had five saves for Sage Hill (2-1), which plays host to Calvary Chapel Santa Ana today at 3:45 p.m.


Sage Hill 58, Tarbut V'Torah 39

IRVINE — Mark Loper had 16 points to lead the Lightning to the pool-play win Tuesday in the Gelman Classic at Tarbut V'Torah.

Stefano Nark added 13 points for Sage Hill (5-0), which will play against Santa Ana Valley today at 5:30 p.m. in pool play at Tarbut.

Ayala 48, Newport Harbor 29

FULLERTON — Senior Cody Caldwell led the Sailors with nine points in their pool-play loss Tuesday at the Tribe Classic at Fullerton High.

Tom Pickett scored five points for Newport (2-3), which plays again at the tournament at 4 p.m. Thursday against a to-be-determined opponent.


Sage Hill 25, Tarbut V'Torah 20

NEWPORT COAST — Zoe Kreitenberg had eight points and 15 rebounds for the Lightning in the nonleague game Tuesday.

Sarah Derheim had five steals and Ava Soleimany added six points for Sage Hill (2-0), which plays at the Fairmont Prep tournament today.
