LA MIRADA — The No. 6-ranked Lions were upset by the No. 12-ranked Eagles in the Golden State Athletic Conference game Saturday at Biola.

Vanguard (5-3, 3-1 in conference) shot just 27.1% from the field, including 16.1% from three-point range (five for 31).

Allison Burns led the Lions with 13 points and five rebounds in 23 minutes off the bench. She made five of seven field-goal tries.

The Vanguard starters were a combined seven for 31 from the field (22.3%), including 3 of 18 from three-point range.

Ariel Castillo had nine points for Vanguard, which committed 20 turnovers, two fewer than the Eagles.

Vanguard seized an 8-0 lead, but Biola went on a 14-2 run to establish command.

Jennifer French had 31 points, including nine three-pointers, to pace three Biola scorers in double figures.

Biola, which had a 45-31 rebounding edge, improved to 8-2, 3-1.

LA MIRADA — John Chapman had five points and nine rebounds and Kelly Taylor had eight points for the Lions in the Golden State Athletic Conference game Saturday at Biola.

The Lions (1-7, 0-4 in conference) have lost six straight.

Nate Rakestraw had 19 points for Biola.

Biola, ranked No. 16, is 8-1, 3-1).
