Sage’s Ross shares two league honors

Sage Hill School senior running back Taylor Ross earned a share of the Academy League Offensive MVP and Kicker of the Year awards after a record-setting football season.

Ross rushed for 1,869 yards and 26 touchdowns, setting Sage Hill single-season records in both categories. He recorded a single-game school-record 250 yards rushing in a 20-13 victory against Fairmont Prep.

Ross made five of six field-goal attempts, including two over 40 yards, and 37 extra-point kicks, each are school records. Ross, who was the Kicker of the Year in 2009, finished with 216 points, third best in Orange County.

Ross helped the Lightning (8-3, 2-1 in league) to a runner-up finish in league and their second straight appearance in the CIF Southern Section East Valley Division playoffs.

Senior offensive guard T.J. Danner was named the Academy League Lineman of the Year. Danner, a repeat first-team pick, recorded 67 pancake blocks.

Other first-team selections from Sage Hill were senior linebacker David Fenner, junior wide receiver/safety Taylor Petty, junior cornerback Conner Ascher, senior quarterback Randall Mycorn, junior all-purpose threat Eric Cheng and junior linebacker/tight end Ford Hanour.

On the second team were seniors Conor Kort, Max Whitaker and Kevin Gregg, sophomores Nick Francoeur and Charlie Kim, and freshman Lucas Ellison.
