COSTA MESA — Will Ligon had 21 points and Matt Sawdon had 20 for the host Pirates in the Orange Empire Conference contest Friday.

Corona del Mar High product Sean Donovan had 13 points off the bench for the Lasers (15-3, 2-0 in conference). IVC starters Joe Eberhard and Ramon Mejia, both CdM products, had five and three points, respectively.

SANTA BARBARA — No. 2-ranked UC Irvine split a pair of matches Friday at the Gaucho Invitational.

The Anteaters dropped their first match to Long Beach State in four games, before defeating Cal Baptist, 26-24, 19-25, 28-26, 25-23.

Carson Clark (21 kills), Jordan DuFault (16) and Jeremy Dejno (15 kills and three aces), helped UCI (1-2) avenge a season-opening loss to Cal Baptist.
