'Eaters' Taylor drafted

The Boston Breakers chose UC Irvine senior Tanya Taylor in the fourth round of the Women's Professional Soccer draft Friday.

Taylor, the first Anteaters player drafted by the third-year league and was the lone player chosen from the Big West Conference. She was the 24th and final player taken in the seven-team draft, which consisted of four rounds in Baltimore, Md.

Taylor was a third-team All-American and the Big West Offensive Player of the Year in 2010, when she led the conference in goals (11) and assists (12), the latter a UCI season record.

Taylor, a forward, helped the Anteaters earn the program's first conference regular-season title and NCAA tournament berth. UCI advanced to the NCAA round of 16 and finished 19-3-2.

"I'm really proud of what Tanya has accomplished," UCI Coach Scott Juniper said in a statement. "She's a talented player with a lot to offer and I'm looking forward to seeing her challenge herself at the next level."
