COSTA MESA — The Eagles received five pins and also four weight-class forfeits to defeat their cross-town rivals Thursday at Estancia High.

Kevin Nguyen (119 pounds), Eduardo Frias (125), Aaron Escobedo (140), Jonathan Guerrero (152) and Alejandre Alvaro (heavyweight) each had pins for the Eagles (2-3 in league).

Estancia is at the Lancaster tournament beginning today.

Estancia 2, Calvary Chapel 1

SANTA ANA — Alissa Scheafer and Heather Flores scored a goal each in the first 10 minutes to help Estancia remain in first place in the Orange Coast League Thursday at Centennial Park.

Jackie Freiberger assisted on both goals. Estancia goalkeeper Ferny Perez had six saves.

Estancia (10-3-2, 4-0 in league) will play against rival Costa Mesa Tuesday at 4:45 p.m. at Jim Scott Stadium.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Estancia 57, Calvary Chapel 43

SANTA ANA — Yessenia Maldonado scored 19 points to lead Estancia, which blitzed Calvary in the Orange Coast League game Thursday.

Estancia (14-6, 4-0 in league) built a 22-1 lead in the first quarter, and led, 36-9, at halftime.

Kassie Stratton scored 13 points in three quarters. She also had seven steals, while teammate Brenda Soto recorded six steals.

Jenny Boldizar had 12 points on four three-pointers, while Celia Duran had nine points for Estancia, which will play host to rival Costa Mesa in a game for first place in league Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Costa Mesa 51, Laguna Beach 44

COSTA MESA — Marilyn Armstrong had 21 points and five steals to lead the Mustangs in the Orange Coast League game Thursday.

Annie Sturm had 20 points, 14 rebounds and seven steals for Costa Mesa (9-11, 4-0 in league).

GIRLS’ WATER POLO

Estancia 10, Ocean View 8

COSTA MESA — Sophomore Ilene Umansky recorded four goals for the Eagles in a nonleague game Thursday.

Kylie Carpenter had two goals for Estancia (8-13).

The Eagles play host to Saddleback in a crucial Orange Coast League game on Wednesday at 3 p.m. Estancia Coach Jennifer Broderick said if the Eagles beat Saddleback, they would secure an entry into the CIF Southern Section Division III playoffs, which would be the program’s first postseason berth in school history.
