Breakers second in boys’ volleyball rankings

The Laguna Beach boys’ volleyball team continues to hold down the No. 2 ranking in the CIF Southern Section Division 2 poll.

The Breakers again are ranked behind Corona del Mar which has maintained the top spot for the past month. The rest of the top 10 is Valencia/Valencia, Oak Park, Trabuco Hills, Oaks Christian, Beckman, El Toro, Aliso Niguel and newcomer Righetti. San Luis Obispo, ranked eighth last week, fell out of the poll, which was released Tuesday.

Laguna’s baseball team comes in again at No. 4 in the Division 4 rankings. Bishop Amat, Palm Desert and Oaks Christian again occupy the top three spots. After Laguna comes No. 5 Torrance, Indio, Chino, Troy, La Quinta/La Quinta and San Dimas. Calvary Chapel, an Orange Coast League rival of Laguna’s, was ranked ninth last week but the Eagles, who twice lost last week to Laguna, were dropped from the rankings.

Laguna’s boys’ tennis team is ranked third behind No. 1 Viewpoint and Paramount. Spots four through 10 went to Santa Ynez, Westminster, La Quinta/Westminster, Cate, Segerstrom, Dunn and Linfield Christian.

Lawn bowling open house is May 7

The Laguna Beach Lawn Bowling Club will hold an open house event, “Saturday On The Green,” from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 7 at the club (455 Cliff Drive, Laguna Beach). The open house includes free lessons, games, food and other activities.
