Newport teams take second
The Newport Lightning Basketball Club’s 14-and-under Black and 14U Green teams started out the Spring AAU season with a successful weekend in Anaheim April 23 taking second place in their brackets.
The Lightning Green team beat the Irvine Mavericks, 53-38, Long Beach Hustlers, 44-27, and lost to JSK Athletx in the final, 44-34.
The Green team featured Landon Knight, Patrick Halle, Jason Askins, Chase Davis, Riley Gaddis, Charlie Evans, Tyler Hague, Ben Bockrath and David Karamardian and is coached by Scott Stucki.
The Lightning Black team also placed second in their pool by defeating RSM Basketball, 46-32, Los Angeles Hawks, 43-28, and losing to Cali Style in the final, 66-47.
The Black team featured Ryan Stone, Brett Greenlee, Kevin Fults, Augie Miller, Logan Miller, Max Kline, Austin Ridge, Harrison Carter and Hagen Truninger and is coached by Mike Flamson.
