Briefs: Quartet on FINA roster

John Mann, Ryan Bailey, Jeff Powers and Tim Hutten are among the 15 players named to the U.S. men’s senior national water polo team roster for the upcoming FINA World League Super Final.

Mann, a former Corona del Mar High and Cal star, and Bailey, a former UC Irvine All-American, are two of the team’s three centers. Both played in a pair of FINA World League preliminary matches last month at Costa Mesa High, leading Team USA to two victories over Team Canada. Bailey, who was a Corona del Mar High boys’ water polo assisant coach last year, still plays club for Newport Water Polo Foundation.

Powers and Hutten, both Anteaters alumni who play defender, also play for NWPF.

The FINA World League Super Final is set for June 21-26 in Florence, Italy.

Harris in APL

Bryan Harris, who completed his eligibility at UC Irvine this past season, has qualified for the 2011 U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship.

The APL will be played June 27 through July 2 at Bandon Dunes Golf Resort in Oregon.

Harris had a 36-hole score of 138 to lead the qualifiers who played at Wine Valley Golf Club in Walla Walla, Wash.

Harris, who was named to the All-Big West Conference second team, led UCI with a 73.58 average in 11 tournaments. He posted three top-10 finishes and won the Anteater Invitational at Big Canyon Country Club, shooting a five-under-par 67 in the final round and winning on the first playoff hole.
