CdM’s Dalton earns league’s top honor

Corona del Mar High senior defenseman Donald Dalton was named the Pacific Coast League Player of the Year in boys’ lacrosse, marking the fourth straight season a Sea Kings’ player earned the top honor.

Dalton, who is one of six Sea Kings making the first team, led CdM (15-5, 10-0 in league) to its fourth straight undefeated league title.

Dalton, who is bound for Drexel University, finished with eight goals and three assists.

Joining Dalton on the first team were junior midfielder Michael Keasey, sophomore attackers Jack Ortlieb and Casey Mix, junior goalie Michael Ortlieb, and junior faceoff specialist Taylor Epp. The six players helped CdM reach the second round of the U.S. Lacrosse Orange County Southern Section Division I playoffs.

Junior attacker Hunter Molnar and junior midfielder Connor Canale were second-team picks.

Three Sailors make first-team league

Newport Harbor High juniors Dewey Wilson, Zac Vayda and Jack Murrel each earned first-team All-Sunset League honors in boys’ lacrosse after helping the Sailors place third in league.

The trio led Newport Harbor (8-10, 2-4 in league) to the opening round of the U.S. Lacrosse Orange County Southern Section Division I playoffs.

Juniors Riley Robinson and Jake Turner were second-team picks, along with senior Park Eddy.

The Sailors’ honorable mentions were seniors Logan Heath, Matt Buchanan and Chase Salazar, as well as sophomore Tyler Palmquist.
