Two area youth soccer teams win titles

Two North Huntington Beach Futbol Club girls’ soccer teams won their respective division championships at the Newport Mesa Cup played Memorial Day weekend.

The girls’ Under-14 team, playing as a team for the first time, started its summer season by winning its division at the event. NHB went 4-0 and outscored its opponents, 10-1.

“It was nothing short of spectacular,” U14 Coach John Roland said of his team’s march to the title.

The NHB girls’ U14 team is: Stephanie Brown, Jocelyn Ceccarelli, Sophia Cogan, Kiana Dinsmore, Jade Kaiser, Sawyer Koelsch, Jenna Low, Yvonne Martinez, Katie O’Donnell, Samantha Oliver, Jasmine Ramirez, Alana Rouse, Baylie Sheroski, Sabrina Wahab and Kate Wigod. Team members also include Katrina Lopez and Emma Walker who were unable to play in the tournament.

The girls’ U14 team will play in the Slammers tournament, Crown City Classic in Coronado and its own NHB Cup in the coming months.

The NHB girls’ U10 team also started its season by winning the Newport Mesa Cup tournament. The squad dominated the opposition, which it outscored, 14-1. NHB won the title by blanking Corona Blues, 3-0, in the division final.

The girls’ U10 team is: Lori Mandarino, Cecelia Odou, Diana Naughton, Maddie Alaluf, Peyton Kassouf, Alexis Beaulac, Trinity Rodman, Jayd Sprague, Abby Edwards, Katie Freeman, Camille Heidelbaugh, Megan Larson and Delaney Trounce. The team is coached by Cameron Beaulac.

Beach Volleyball

Hayley Hodson of Laguna Beach teamed with Chrissy Jones of Lakewood on Sunday to win the 16-Under division of the California Beach Volleyball Assn. Huntington Beach Sand Volleyball Tournament at the Huntington Beach Pier.

Hodson and Jones, both 14, went 8-0 on the day. Both also recently made the USA Volleyball National High Performance Select team for the second straight year and are training for the USA Volleyball High Performance Championships, scheduled for July 26-30 in Tucson, Ariz.
