Aim High Hoops Elite 12U wins again

The Aim High Basketball Club’s boys’ 12-and-under team won the AHHE Summer Smash title in its division last weekend at Costa Mesa High.

Going undefeated heading into the championship game, Aim High displayed a solid performance by defeating Southeast Warriors, the AH club and a come-from-behind victory against the San Pedro Knights before matching up again with the Southeast Warriors in the championship game.

The title game featured aggressive defense and clutch shots by Aim High Hoops Elite to beat Southeast Warriors and take home another championship trophy for the season.

The club was led by the dominant play throughout the weekend by Luke Vafiadis (14 points, nine rebounds), Shan Dharod (eight points, six assists), Mikey Ruiz (six points, three steals, Chris Cox (six points, seven rebounds), Nick Ursini (two points, two assists), Sebastian Hooshmand (two points, three rebounds) and Turner Maza (two points, one steal)

The backcourt duo of Dharod and Ruiz were clutch down the stretch hitting big shots to change the momentum of the game in order to overcome an eight-point deficit in the final minutes of the championship game. Contributing off the bench, Maza and Hooshmand provided key minutes and depth throughout the tournament.

The Aim High Hoops Elite boys’ 12U team was coached by Daniel Lim.
