NEWPORT BEACH — Newport Harbor High senior Blake Bakkila earned singles MVP honors to pace the Sailors to the team title at the two-day tournament completed Saturday at The Tennis Club Newport Beach.

Bakkila swept four singles matches to help the Sailors finish 4-0 in the five-team, round-robin format.

The Tars defeated Sage Hill, 7-2, Tesoro, 7-2, Cerritos, 9-0, and Santa Ynez, 9-0.

Annie Radeva, Megan Bathen and Kate Knight earned all-tournament honors from Newport Harbor.

Sage Hill, which finished 3-1, was represented on the all-tournament team by Katie Bick and Ava Soleimany.

Sage defeated Tesoro, 7-2, Cerritos, 7-2, and Santa Ynez, 9-0.

SANTA ANA — Senior Farrel South had five goals and two assists to propel the visiting Sailors in the nonleague contest, their first under Coach Robert Lynn, on Saturday.

Ryan Fowler had two goals and two assists, while Curtis Fink and Andrew Silvers also had two goals apiece for the Tars.

Koby Yakota had 11 of the Sailors’ 14 saves.

Newport posted a 7-0 halftime lead.

The Tars play host to Long Beach Wilson on Tuesday.

Costa Mesa 14, Paramount 3

COSTA MESA — Wyatt Ferris had nine goals and James Lewis had three goals and five assists to pace the host Mustangs in the nonleague game Saturday.

Mitchell Grandia (first half) and James Rydjeski (second half) had 12 and 11 saves, respectively, for the winners (2-0).
