Tar Heels still perfect

The Newport-Mesa Tar Heels boys’ fifth-grade All-Net team remained undefeated after beating the Yorba Linda Pumas Black, 52-29, and the RSM Titans, 51-27, last weekend in away games.

The Tar Heels were paced by the guard play of Nico Dasca (9.5 points per game), Ethan Barnes (6 ppg), Luke Chelf (4 ppg) and Jake Hamilton (11 ppg), while Johnny King (7 rebounds per game, 7 ppg), DJ Rodman (5 rpg) and Adam Flood (6 ppg, 2 steals per game) manned the paint and played stifling defense.

Matt Olson, Sam Barela and Mason Melcer played well for the Heels combining for 14 points, 10 assists and 14 rebounds while shutting down RSM’s key players. The Tar Heels play their first game at home on Sunday against RSM Titans at Newport Coast Community Center at 11:30 a.m.

Tryouts coming

Blue Wave Baseball is now conducting Spring 2012 tryouts for Newport Beach, Newport Coast, Costa Mesa and Irvine players in the month of December for 10U, 11U, 12U, 13U, and 14U teams that will play in local leagues and tournaments throughout starting in January.
