Bartovich wins NSSA Open Longboard event

Tony Bartovich of Huntington Beach captured the Open Longboard division title of the sixth event of the National Scholastic Surfing Assn. Southwest Conference season Dec. 3 and 4 at the Huntington Beach Pier.

Bartovich earned a final point-average total of 10.33 to shade Lucas Foster of Carlsbad who finished in second place with a 10.04 score. Dane Petersen (8.77) of Trabuco Canyon was third and Stephanie Schechter (4.34) of San Diego was fourth.


Huntington Valley LL registration is Saturday

Huntington Valley Little League will hold its final in-person registration for its spring 2012 season from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday. Registration will take place at the league's playing fields, 9191 Pioneer Ave., Huntington Beach. The league is open to youth ages 4 to 16.

Fastpitch softball registration is Monday

The final in-person registration session for South Huntington Beach Girls Fastpitch Softball is from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at First Class Pizza, 18671 Brookhurst St., Huntington Beach. Online registration also is available through Dec. 31 at

South Huntington Beach Girls Fastpitch Softball is an Amateur Softball Assn. recreational softball league for girls ages 5 to 14.


HB Girls Softball registration still open

Huntington Beach Girls Softball, an Amateur Softball Assn. recreational league, has opened registration for its spring 2012 season. Girls ages 5 to 14 are welcome to join the league.

The 2012 season runs January through May, with practices and games held at Circle View Elementary School (6261 Hooker Drive, Huntington Beach). Registration is open through Dec. 23, with a $25 discount offered for early registration by Thursday. For more information, visit
