High School Roundup: CdM takes third in Westminster tourney


Corona del Mar 75, Artesia 55

WESTMINSTER — Max Stone scored 28 points with five three-pointers for the Sea Kings, who finished third in the Westminster tournament Saturday.

Joey Calise scored 17 points and Jake McCloskey added 16 points for CdM (5-4).

Andrew McCormick and Stone were named to the all-tournament team.


Estancia 49, Los Amigos 30

COSTA MESA — Senior center Rashad Davis had 14 points and 17 rebounds for the Eagles in the nonleague game Friday.

Senior forward Lucas Pereira had 15 points and eight rebounds, while junior Ben Beck added 10 points for Estancia (4-2).


Rio Hondo 52, Sage Hill 37

NEWPORT COAST — Senior guard Stefano Nark and junior Jack Williamson scored eight points each for the Lightning in the nonleague game Saturday.

Sage Hill (2-6) plays at Chadwick Tuesday.



Corona del Mar 4, Marina 0

CORONA DEL MAR — The Sea Kings dominated, scoring four goals in the first 33 minutes in the nonleague game Saturday.

Maddie O'Connor, Alexa Mamatas, Miranda Steiver and Sydney Raguse scored one goal each.

Ally Brahs and Mamatas had one assist each for CdM (7-1-1). Goalie Kendall Mulvaney made two saves. She posted her third straight shutout and her fifth of the season.

The Sea Kings next play in the Flintridge Sacred Heart tournament. They open against Ayala Dec. 27 at 10 a.m. at Glendale Sports Complex.



Brea Olinda tournament

BREA — Corona del Mar's Colin Krum placed seventh at 182 pounds in the 32-team tournament Saturday at Brea Olinda High.

The Sea Kings' Paul Nguyen was one match away from placing at 138 pounds, before he fell to a Troy wrestler.



University 55, Newport Harbor 22

HUNTINGTON BEACH — Kasey Thompson scored 16 points for the Sailors, who finished fourth in the Ocean View tournament Saturday.

Thompson and Jennifer Lopez (four points) earned all-tournament honors for Newport Harbor (4-5) in the 16-team tourney.

The Sailors play at Costa Mesa Thursday at 5 p.m.


Fountain Valley 60, Corona del Mar 26

HUNTINGTON BEACH — Maddie Camarillo scored six points for the Sea Kings, who finished sixth in the Ocean View tournament Saturday.

Amy Hoogenboom had five points for CdM (6-4), which had Karleh Wilson and Jordan Meyers named to the all-tournament team.
