High School Roundup: Alvarado scores three goals


Flintridge Sacred Heart Tournament

LA CANADA FLINTRIDGE — Annie Alvarado scored three goals to help Corona del Mar beat Ayala, 2-0, and La Salle, 4-0, Wednesday at Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy.

Alvarado scored in the 27th minute on a free kick from about 20 yards out to give the Sea Kings (9-1-1) a 1-0 lead.

Alvarado scored against in the 47th minute off an assist from Maddie O'Connor.

Ally Brahs scored two goals in the first half, her first two goals of the season, in the win over La Salle. Alvarado and O'Connor scored a goal each.

Miranda Stiver, Amanda Stevenson, Monica Venturni and Alexa Mamatas had assist each for CdM.

Goalie Kendall Mulvaney had five saves against Ayala. Two of the saves were "phenomenal," CdM Coach Bryan Middleton said. Mulvaney had three saves against La Salle. She posted her fifth straight shutout.

The Sea Kings play against West Ranch Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. A win or a tie for CdM will put it in the title game at 3:30 p.m.



Marina Tournament

HUNTINGTON BEACH — Brice Manning scored twice to help Newport Harbor beat Long Beach Cabrillo, 1-0, and tie with Dominguez, 1-1, Tuesday.

Henry Ramirez assisted on Manning's goal in the win. Goalie Rudy Reyes had five saves.

Edgar Hidalgo had seven saves in the tie for Newport Harbor (6-3-3), which plays against Santiago in the quarterfinals Wednesday at 8 a.m. at Marina.



Estancia 43, Century 35

GARDEN GROVE — Sophomore Celia Duran scored 25 points for the Eagles in a consolation game of the Garden Grove tournament Tuesday.

Junior Gianna Jason had nine points and junior Frida Ramos had eight steals for Estancia (7-7), which plays against Los Amigos in the consolation semifinals Wednesday.


Foothill 69, Corona del Mar 23

GARDEN GROVE — Melanie de Arakal scored seven points for the Sea Kings in the Garden Grove tournament Tuesday.

Karleh Wilson had 15 points and 10 rebounds in CdM's 37-26 win over Orange Monday.

The Sea Kings (7-5) play against La Habra Wednesday in a fifth-place semifinal.



Costa Mesa 49, Rubidoux 36

TEMECULA — Sophomore Sean Comer scored 16 points for the Mustangs in a pool-play game of the Linfield Christian Cage Classic Tuesday.

Senior Saaeed El Assadi had nine points and five rebounds for Costa Mesa (7-4), which plays against Heritage Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.


Sage Hill 67, High Tech 54

VISTA — Junior forward Creagan Lydon and senior forward Chris Zadra scored 15 points each for the Lightning in the first round of the Tri City Christian tournament Tuesday.

Sage Hill plays in the second round Wednesday morning.


Corona del Mar 75, Santa Maria 36

ATASCADERO — Jake McCloskey scored 20 points for the Sea Kings in the first round of the eight-team Atascadero tournament Tuesday.

Joey Calise added 17 points and Ryan Griffin had 12 points for CdM (7-5), which plays in the semifinals Wednesday.
