Breakers continue to roll

The Laguna Beach girls’ water polo team ran its record to 5-0 on Dec. 22 by defeating San Clemente, 11-7, in nonleague action.

The Breakers, ranked sixth in Division 1, turned a 2-0 first-quarter lead into a 4-2 halftime advantage over the host Tritons, who are ranked sixth in Division 2. Lexie Del Toro led the Breakers in scoring with four goals and the junior attacker also had an assist. Junior attacker Mackenzie Baldridge scored three goals and had an assist and a steal.

Sophomore goalie Jenna Knott recorded nine saves and had two steals.

Laguna will compete Friday and Saturday at the 16-team Newport Harbor Holiday Cup Tournament. The 16-team, two-day event will be played at Newport Harbor and Corona del Mar. The Breakers are the No. 3-seed in Pool B and open against Poway at 11:45 a.m. Friday at Corona del Mar.

Next week, Laguna hosts Los Osos in nonleague play at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Girls’ Soccer

The Breakers hosted University in nonleague play on Dec. 22 and dropped a 3-0 decision at Guyer Field. Laguna plays a nonleague game at 5 p.m. Thursday at Ocean View.

Boys’ Soccer

Laguna is off during the winter break. The Breakers (3-1-2) resume regular-season action Jan. 6 at home (6:30 p.m.) against San Juan Hills.
