High School Roundup: CdM wins third straight PCL game


Corona del Mar 58, Irvine 54

IRVINE — Senior forward Joey Calise and sophomore point guard Jeff Johnston each had 12 points on Thursday, helping the Sea Kings win their third straight Pacific Coast League game.

Blake Grable contributed 11 points for CdM (12-9, 4-2 in league).



Costa Mesa 51, Saddleback 34

COSTA MESA — Nancy Aguilar had 19 points and 11 steals for the Mustangs in the Orange Coast League game Thursday.

Molly Settles had 13 points and five steals, while Ebelin Roman had 10 points and 13 rebounds for Costa Mesa (10-12, 4-2 in league).



Corona del Mar 15, Irvine 2

IRVINE — Diana Murphy scored six goals for the Sea Kings in the Pacific Coast League match Thursday at Irvine High.

Ally McCormick had three goals and three assists, and Cassidy Papa also scored three goals for CdM (17-1, 7-0 in league), the top-ranked team in the CIF Southern Section Division I coaches' poll. Pippa Saunders had two goals, four assists and three steals for CdM, and Genevieve Weed also scored.

Alex Musselman made eight saves for the Sea Kings, who play host to Woodbridge on Tuesday.



Estancia 1, Godinez 1

SANTA ANA — Freshman Alba Barrios scored in the 72nd minute to help the Eagles tie the Orange Coast League game Thursday at Centennial Park.

Senior Heather Flores had the assist for Estancia (7-7-4, 2-1-3 in league), which plays host to Laguna Beach Tuesday at 4:45 p.m.



Fountain Valley 62, Newport Harbor 15

NEWPORT BEACH — Seniors Alex Maher (138-pound division), Brandon Hayden (182) and Jason Aviles (heavyweight) each won for the Sailors in the Sunset League dual match Thursday.

Maher won by pin in 2:27, Hayden won by pin in 4:24 and Jason Aviles won in overtime, 3-2.
