Robert Sullivan scored to give the Eagles a 41-40 lead with 20 seconds left

HUNTINGTON BEACH — Chance Beauchamp scored 15 points to help the Sailors win their first Sunset League game of the season Wednesday.

Nic Sargeant and Zach Wade scored 12 points each for Newport Harbor (6-15, 1-6 in league).

Godinez 47, Costa Mesa 45

SANTA ANA — Nick Hefner scored 15 points to lead the Mustangs in the Orange Coast League game Wednesay.

Nick Dawson had 14 points, five assists and four rebounds for Costa Mesa (16-7, 5-2 in league), which had its game-winning three-point shot attempt rim out, Coach Bryan Rice said.

The Mustangs play host to Laguna Beach Friday at 7 p.m.

Corona del Mar 2, Woodbridge 1

CORONA DEL MAR — Junior striker Conor Roche recorded a goal and assisted on another on Wednesday, helping the Sea Kings get closer to claiming the Pacific Coast League title.

CdM (8-6-2, 7-1-0 in league), which avenged its only league loss, can wrap up the league crown with a victory at home against University on Friday at 3 p.m.

Estancia 3, Laguna Beach 2

COSTA MESA — Alan Anaya scored the game-winning goal in the 70th minute off an assist from Anthony Pastrana for the Eagles in the Orange Coast League game Wednesday at Jim Scott Stadium.

Chris Gomez and Alex Plata scored a goal each, while Christian Montillo and Carlos Barrios each had an assist for Estancia (9-4-4, 3-1-3 in league).

Eagles’ goalie Danny Guerrero made seven saves.

GIRLS’ WATER POLO

Corona del Mar 21, University 1

CORONA DEL MAR — The Sea Kings clinched outright their 13th straight Pacific Coast League title Wednesday at CdM.

Pippa Saunders had seven goals, three assists and two steals for CdM. Diana Murphy and Ally McCormick each added three goals for CdM (19-1, 9-0 in league), the top-ranked team in CIF Southern Section Division I.

Alex Musselman made two saves and also scored a goal in the field. CdM plays at the Irvine Southern California Championships beginning Thursday.

Newport Harbor 14, Marina 3

NEWPORT BEACH — Maddy McLaren had four goals for the Sailors, who clinched at least a share of the Sunset League title Wednesday night at Newport Harbor High.

Presley Pender and Paisley Muller each scored three goals for Newport Harbor (16-4, 4-0 in league). Cleo Harrington had six saves and Lindsey Richardson added five.

Newport Harbor, ranked No. 2 in CIF Southern Section Division I, opens play at the Irvine Southern California Championships on Thursday.

Estancia 15, Saddleback 7

SANTA ANA — Eagles junior Ilene Umansky had eight goals in the Orange Coast League game Wednesday at Saddleback High.

Umansky has 110 goals this season, tied for the most in the county.

Danielle Ridge added four goals for Estancia (10-12, 1-3 in league), which plays Lakeside of Lake Elsinore on Monday.

WRESTLING

Edison 62, Newport Harbor 18

NEWPORT BEACH — Larson Harley (145 pounds), Brandon Hayden (182) and Conner Moore (195) all recorded pins for the Sailors in Wednesday’s Sunset League dual meet.

Newport Harbor is 8-8, 0-5 in league. The Sailors wrestle at league finals Saturday at Huntington Beach High.
