OC Vision wins Winter Madness

The OC Vision seventh-grade basketball team won the Winter Madness sponsored by Swoosh at Fountain Valley High last weekend.

Shan Dharod (20 points, seven assists) and Chris Cox (10 points, 10 rebounds) led the team in scoring and helped OC Vision to a 4-0 record in the two-day tournament.

Sebastian Hooshmand and Joshua Conley were also key contributors, pulling in eight boards per contest.

Sachin Gokhale (three steals per game) and Brandon Ignacio (four steals per game) provided strong defense.

Mike Nguyen displayed hustle and produced key baskets, while the team received outstanding contributions from Brian Robert, Billy Barron, Micaiah Kelly and Daniel Albright.

CdM girls compete at Winterfest

The Corona del Mar Aquatics 12U and 14U girls’ water polo teams competed in the Winterfest tournament last weekend.

The 14U girls’ age group included 29 teams from Sacramento to San Diego competing at two levels, “AA” and “BB.”

The 14U girls finished ninth overall by winning three of their five games in the upper “AA” level.

During the three-day tourney CdM defeated CHAWP (8-7), Elite WPC (8-4) and San Diego Shores (6-5).

One of CdM’s two losses came at the hands of eventual 14U champion Laguna Beach (12-7) and the other to SOCAL, one of the four “AA” semi-finalists.

The 12U team participated in its first tournament of the year. With a win against San Diego Shores, 14-4, CdM finished ninth in the 12U age group.

Santa Barbara WPC won the 12U championship.

The CdM Aquatics girls’ and boys’ teams will begin preparing for the Turbo Orange County Cup March 17-18.
