The Laguna Beach Water Polo Club girls' 12-and-Under and 14-and-Under teams won gold medals on Sunday at the 2012 Turbo Orange County Cup.
Laguna started the tournament Saturday at El Toro and pulled out an 11-10 win over International of Los Alamitos. The team won easily in their second outing Saturday, defeating Northwood, 13-3.
Laguna also cruised to two more victories Sunday. The locals started the day with a 12-2 rout of Rosebowl of Pasadena. In the division final, Laguna jumped out to a 3-0 lead on Riverside and went on to a 10-3 victory.
The 12U girls are: Angelique Begay, Danielle Borelli, Evie Cant, Audrey Duffy, Alana Evans, Niva Razin, Sophia Lucas, Isabel Riches, Evan Tingler and Thea Walsh. The team is coached by Matt Tingler.
Laguna began tournament play at the William Woollett Jr. Aquatics Center in Irvine by battling Xtreme of Corona to a 9-9 score. However, it went on to win its next three games to win gold.
After playing Xtreme to a standstill in a game that it had led throughout Saturday, Laguna rebounded to earn an 11-3 win over VC Premier of Simi Valley. On Sunday, Laguna held off Rose Bowl by a 7-6 score to advance to the title game. In the division final, Laguna scored a decisive, 9-3 win over So Cal.
The 14U girls are: Bella Baldridge, Aria Fischer, Ally Jochim, Holly Parker, Maia Borisoff, Sophia Lucas, Hayley Evans, Katya Cox-Kruger, Angelique Begay and Gabi Beren. The team is coached by Erich Fischer and Scott Baldridge.
