All-League Boys’ Basketball teams

Davis highlights OCL

Estancia High senior center Rashad Davis and junior teammate Ben Beck, along with Costa Mesa senior guards Nick Dawson and Jordan Walden each made the first-team All-Orange Coast League in boys’ basketball.

Davis and Beck led the Eagles (17-12, 7-3 in league) to a runner-up finish in league and the second round of the CIF Southern Section Division 3A playoffs.

Dawson and Walden helped the Mustangs to their most wins (19) in a season in the program’s history. Costa Mesa (19-10, 6-4) placed third in league and reached the second round of the CIF Southern Section Division 4A playoffs.

Davis, who is 6-foot-7, averaged 16.2 points, 14.6 rebounds and 3.3 blocks per game. He recorded a double-double in 22 games and shot 63% from the floor.

Beck averaged 10 points per game. He hit a game-winning three-pointer at the buzzer in the Eagles’ 33-32 win against rival Costa Mesa in the regular-season finale, which clinched second place in league.

Dawson averaged 8.6 points, 4.4 rebounds, three assists and 2.2 steals per game for Costa Mesa. He sparked the Mustangs in a league playoff game against Godinez, scoring eight straight points to lift his team to a win and the league’s third playoff berth.

Walden averaged 8.8 points and two steals per game. He was one of the top defensive players in the area.

Estancia senior forward Chad Fackler and Costa Mesa senior guard Nick Hefner each received second-team all-league honors.

Laguna Beach’s Jake Dalke and Cole Kesler shared the Orange Coast League MVP.

Duo on first team

Corona del Mar High senior forward Andrew McCormack and senior guard Jake McCloskey were each named to the first-team All-Pacific Coast League in boys’ basketball after leading the Sea Kings to a runner-up finish in league and the quarterfinals of the CIF Southern Section Division 3A playoffs.

McCormack, the heart and soul of the Sea Kings, helped CdM (17-11, 7-3 in league) reach the quarterfinals for the third straight season under Coach Ryan Schachter.

McCloskey, a transfer from Edison High, averaged 14 points per game. He led the Sea Kings in scoring in the first two rounds of the playoffs.

CdM sophomore point guard Jeff Johnston earned second-team honors.

Woodbridge’s Ali Lodi was the PCL MVP.

Williamson shines

Sage Hill School sophomore guard Jack Williamson made the second-team All-Academy League in boys’ basketball.

Williamson averaged 12 points per game and started every contest for the Lightning (5-19, 2-8 in league).

Senior Stefano Nark was an honorable mention for Sage Hill, which finish fifth in league.

Brethren Christian’s Mamadou Ndiaye was the Academy League MVP.

Newport’s Beauchamp earns all-league honors

Newport Harbor High senior small forward Chance Beauchamp earned second-team All-Sunset League honors in boys’ basketball.

Beauchamp, the only Newport Harbor player making all-league, averaged 13 points per game. He led the Sailors (7-17, 2-8 in league) in scoring in more than half of their games.

Beauchamp set the Newport Harbor single-game three-point record by making nine from behind the arc in a league contest at Huntington Beach, where he finished with 33 points.

Beauchamp also hit seven three-pointers in a league game against Fountain Valley.

Coach Bob Torribio said Beauchamp made 56 threes, 11 shy of tying the Sailors’ single-season record, which is held by Dennis Heenan.

Los Alamitos’ Ryan Hurst and Chris Kapano shared the Sunset League MVP award.
