Davis’ and Dawson’s high school teams split the Orange Coast League two-game series. Costa Mesa won the Battle for the Bell because it won its game by a larger margin and Estancia’s victory gave the Eagles second place in league.

Davis helped Estancia (17-12, 7-3 in league) reach the second round of the CIF Southern Section Division 3A playoffs.

Davis, who is 6-foot-7, averaged 16.2 points, 14.6 rebounds and 3.3 blocks per game. He recorded a double-double in 22 games and shot 63% from the floor. Estancia Coach Agustin Heredia said Davis is bound for Saddleback College.

Dawson, who averaged 8.6 points, 4.4 rebounds, three assists and 2.2 steals per game, led Costa Mesa to its most wins (19) in a season in the program’s history. The Mustangs (19-10, 6-4) advanced to the second round of the Division 4A playoffs.

Tickets are $10 at the door, and students and children are free.
