OCC gets top seed

The Orange Coast College baseball team will open the Southern California Regionals at home on Saturday against an opponent to be determined.

Coach John Altobelli's Pirates (31-4-1), ranked No. 1 in Southern California for most of the season, are the No. 1 seed in the SoCal bracket. They will play the winner of Tuesday's single-elimination game between Los Angeles Valley (19-17) and Bakersfield (25-11), in a best-of-three series scheduled Saturday and Sunday.

Game 1 on Saturday is at 1 p.m. Game 2 begins Sunday at 11 a.m. and a rubber game, if necessary, will follow.

The regional series winners advance to the Super Regionals, a four-team double-elimination tournament that sends its winner to the four-team state championship event. The Super Regionals are May 11 through 13.

The state tournament is May 18-20 at Bakersfield College.
