Knapp misses cut

Jake Knapp, an Estancia High senior, did not make the cut to play in the U.S. Open after finishing tied for 77th at the U.S. Open Sectional Qualifying Monday.

Knapp, bound for UCLA, shot four-over-par 76 at the TPC Harding Park in San Francisco and went even-par 72 at Lake Merced Golf Course in Daly City. He had a rough front nine at Harding Park with two bogeys and a double bogey.

He rebounded with an eagle on No. 12, but bogeyed twice to go even on the back nine. He had four birdies at Lake Merced.

James Hahn of San Bruno won the qualifier, with 66-70—136. Santa Margarita junior Beau Hossler (70-67—137) tied for second to qualify for the U.S. Open for the second straight year. The top seven qualified for the U.S. Open at the Olympic Club in San Francisco, June 14 through 17.
