Briefs: Pavlik wins again

Former UC Irvine women’s volleyball standout Whitney Pavlik and partner Jenny Kropp won the Hermosa Open on Sunday, their fourth straight win in as many events on this year’s Jose Cuervo Pro Beach Volleyball Series.

Pavlik and Kropp, the No. 1 seeds, defeated No. 3-seeded Jennifer Fopma and Brooke Sweat, 21-15, 20-22, 17-15, in the final to split the $11,000 winnng prize.

Costa Mesa resident Brad Keenan teamed with John Meyer to finish second in the men’s event. They were defeated, 22-20, 21-23, 15-9, in the championship match on Sunday.

UCI products shine

UC Irvine alumni led the Newport Water Polo Foundation to the championship of the U.S. Open of Water Polo, completed Sunday at Irvine High.

Greg Enloe scored four goals, Omar Amr three and Griffin Lerman two in Newport’s 11-4 victory over Bruin in the final Sunday.

Goalie Genai Kerr, a 1998 All-American at UCI and 2004 Olympian, was named tournament MVP.

Amr, a three-time All-American at UCI and a 2004 Olympian, earned all-tournament honors as did Dreason Barry, also thrice an All-American at UCI.
