LA VERNE — Junior Bojan Hrlec scored nine goals in No. 6-ranked UC Irvine’s two wins on Sunday.

Hrlec scored six in a 19-10 victory over Pomona-Pitzer after tallying three in a 21-5 win over La Verne.

Hrlec, a transfer from West Valley College and a member of the Croatian junior national team, had a total of 18 goals in five UCI wins over three days.

Junior Mitch Wise led the ‘Eaters (7-0) with four goals in the win over La Verne.

LOS ANGELES — Cameron Iwasa headed in an assist from Gor Kirakosyan to give the visiting No. 11-ranked Anteaters a lead in the 71st minute on Sunday.

But the No. 14-ranked Bruins rallied to improve to 3-1-1.

UCI is 3-2.

DENVER — The hosts converted 67% of their six shots on goal to improve to 5-1-1 on Sunday as the Anteaters fell to 3-5.

UCI was outshot, 13-10.

BOISE, Idaho — The Anteaters fell, 25-16, 25-23, 25-27, 25-21 on Saturday to conclude the Boise State Invitational.

Junior outside hitter Aly Squires had 15 kills and 14 digs on her way to all-tournament honors for UCI (4-6).

Senior libero Kristin Winkler was also an all-tournament pick for UCI.

Future Big West Conference member Boise State is 6-4.

MidAmerica Nazarene def. Vanguard

COSTA MESA — The host Lions were bested, 25-15, 25-17, 25-23, on Saturday to conclude the Vanguard Tournament.

Jessica Neves had 13 kills and Kelly Heenan added 17 digs for the Lions, who are 8-6.

CROSS COUNTRY

UC Irvine Invitational

IRVINE — Senior Rex Nelson, a Newport Harbor High product, finished second and UCI men’s teammate Sam Hyams, also a senior, was fifth on Saturday to help the Anteaters finish fourth as a team.

Nelson ran the 8,000-meter course in 24 minutes, 57.5 seconds. Hyams ran 25:19.7.

Riley Martin (31st in 26:20.7) and Steven Melena (33rd in 26:24.4) also stood out for UCI.

The UCI women finished 10th, with senior Chloe Fata finishing 52nd. She ran 5,000 meters in 19:11.6.
