College Roundup: OCC dominates Saddleback

COSTA MESA — Alyssa Thomas led the Pirates with seven goals in the Orange Empire Conference opener for both teams Wednesday.

OCC used an 11-goal opening period to cruise to the victory.

Sierra Driessen, Audrey Hung and Brianna Salas scored four goals each. Layla Jahanshai and Vivianne Mai each had three goals, while Kaitlyn Finney and Belen Cairo each contributed a goal each.

OCC goalies Anna Venturini and Cailend Robbins combined for seven saves in the win.

The Pirates return to the OCC pool Wednesday when they play host to Santa Ana College, beginning at 4:30 p.m.

Orange Coast 17, Saddleback 4

COSTA MESA — Connor Moulton had three goals and an assist to lead the Pirates, while Randy Trimmer added two goals and three assists in the Orange Empire Conference opener for both teams Wednesday.

Tommy Patten, Chad Naughton and Trevor McGhie each had two goals apiece, while Derek Husted and Gerit Hill each had a goal and an assist. Solo goals were turned in by Kyle Sullivan and Shane Pickels.

OCC used a five-goal first period, a four-goal second period and a five-goal third period to jump out to a 14-2 advantage.

OCC’s goalies Jose Cueto and Josiah Vander Kooy each played a half and both combined for seven saves.

The Pirates will return to the OCC pool on Wednesday against Santa Ana College, beginning at 3 p.m.

MEN’S SOCCER

Orange Coast 7, San Bernardino Valley 1

COSTA MESA — Brandon Bauman had four goals and an assist to lead the Pirates in the nonconference game Wednesday.

Jorge Sanchez added two goals and Baji Chela added one goal and Franki Munoz had an assist fo OCC (1-2-1). Goalie Connor Nelson had three saves for the Pirates.

San Bernardino Valley is 3-2-1.

The Pirates will return to action on Friday at El Camino College, beginning at 2 p.m.

WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL

Orange Coast def. San Bernardino Valley

SAN BERNARDINO — Hayley Martin and Morgan Link had six kills each to lead the Pirates to a 25-18, 25-10, 28-26 nonconference win Wednesday.

Allison Lumsden had 19 assists and Lindsey Romero had six digs for OCC (3-0).

San Bernardino Valley is 1-3.
